ED 212-8 - Guidelines for Brewery Operations Beer Samples for Quality Control Purposes

A brewer may take samples of duty paid beer for quality control purposes.

COMPLIANCE

1. A brewer who requires samples of beer from his packaged stock for quality control purposes will submit to the Regional Director of Excise for approval a written statement as to the quantities of such beer he will require.

2. After approval by the Regional Director, a brewer may take credit for such authorized quantities provided

(a) the documentation related to the transaction indicates that the quantities are returned to process stock and consigned to the brewer’s on-premises laboratory; and

(b) the samples so taken are destroyed in the quality control process or, if not destroyed, they are added to the brewer’s process stock.

Regional Directors are requested to insure that a copy of this Circular is forwarded by registered mail to all Excise Duty Licensees concerned who are located in their regions.

THIS CIRCULAR IS ISSUED UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF THE ASSISTANT DEPUTY MINISTER OF NATIONAL REVENUE, EXCISE, AS INFORMATION RELATING TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE EXCISE ACT AND REGULATIONS.
