Reminder of best practices during tax returns preparation

A volunteer from the Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program can take on different roles. The following guidelines will provide you with suggestions and advice to help you prepare tax returns successfully.

Important note

The CRA and Revenu Québec take security of confidential information very seriously. To ensure the protection and confidentiality of an individual’s information, you must follow the instructions below:

  • Do not use or disclose an individual’s information for purposes other than completing their tax returns
  • Protect the individual’s information safely in a locked drawer or cabinet and never leave this information unattended
  • Pay attention to your surroundings when you talk to people, especially in a virtual session when other people are in your home or when you have smart devices such as Google Home or Alexa
  • If you note that the security or confidentiality of an individual’s information has been compromised (for example, theft or loss of data), immediately notify the community organization you are affiliated with
