Tax-related benefits and credits per year

  • Payment - Canada child benefit (CCB)
    • How much - Up to $7,997 per child under 6 years of age. Up to $6,748 per child 6-17 years of age
    • How often – Monthly
    • Helps to - support the needs of children under 18
  • Payment - Goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) credit
    • How much - Up to $533 if you’re single. Up to $698 if you’re married or have a common-law partner. And up to an additional $184 for each child you have under 19
    • How often - July, October, January, and April
    • Helps to - offset the cost of GST or HST paid on products and services
  • Payment - Canada workers benefit (CWB) (includes a disability supplement if you’re eligible for the disability tax credit (DTC)*)
    • How much - Up to $1,633 if you’re single. Up to $2,813 if you’re married or have a common-law partner. And up to an additional $843 if you’re approved for the DTC*
    • How often - Annually when you do your taxes (you may be eligible to receive Advanced Canada Workers Benefit payments up to 50% of the CWB in July, October, and January)
    • Helps to - offset certain costs for individuals and families who are working and earning a low income
  • Payment - Child disability benefit
    • How much - Up to $3,411 for each child who is eligible for the DTC*
    • How often - Monthly
    • Helps to - support the needs of a child under 18 who is living with a disability and is eligible for the CCB and DTC*
  • Payment - Provincial and territorial payments
    • How much - Varies
    • How often - Varies
    • Helps to - reduce the cost of living for individuals and families

Are you eligible?

For all benefit and credit payments, you need to:

  • be a resident of Canada for income tax purposes
  • have significant ties in Canada (a home, spouse or common-law partner, or dependents)

For some benefit and credit payments, you also need a valid immigration and citizenship status:

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • protected person
  • temporary resident (lived in Canada for the previous 18 months with a valid permit in the 19th month)
    • inform the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) if your permit is renewed to avoid interruptions to payments

Keep getting your payments

  • Do your taxes by April 30 each year.
  • Do your taxes even if you have no income or tax-exempt income.
  • Both married or common-law partners need to do their taxes.
  • In Quebec, you need to file a separate provincial tax return with Revenu Québec.
