Statistics: Free tax clinics

This page provides statistics for free tax clinics hosted through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). There is a snapshot for each province and territory, as well as the national total.

The numbers show:

  • community organizations
  • volunteers
  • individuals helped
  • returns filed
  • refund, credit, and benefit entitlements

Note for Quebec:

Community organizations in the province of Quebec, that partner with the Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program (ITAVP), offer free tax return preparation sessions and do not accept any payment for the preparation of federal returns. For Quebec provincial returns, minimal fees may be charged, provided that they comply with Revenu Québec’s rules.

Footnote 1

These statistics are as of January 6, 2026. Reporting period is January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025. For ease of visual presentation, all data has been rounded. However, whole numbers are used for calculations, so totals may not equal the sum of rounded numbers. The amounts apply to current and prior-year income tax and benefit returns filed through the program. As the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) receives more information, the data may change.

Footnote 2

The listed province or territory is where the individual was a resident on December 31, 2025, as reported on their return. An individual can have multiple returns (current and previous years) filed under more than one province or territory. Provincial and territorial totals will not add up to national totals. This is because national totals include counts for those whose province or territory of residence could not be identified when the data was gathered.
