1. Who qualifies for the Age Amount?

An individual who is 65 years of age or older may qualify for the Age Amount.

2. How has the Age Amount changed?

For 2009, the budget proposes to increase the maximum age amount by $1,000 from $5,408 to $6,408 (indexed after 2009).

3. What will I need to do to claim the increased Age Amount?

The revised amount will be incorporated into your 2009 personal income tax return and may be claimed when you file this return.

4. For 2009, the Age Amount is reduced when my net income is over $32,312. Has this amount changed?

No. The income level above which the age amount is reduced will remain at $32,312.

5. Can taxpayers entitled to the increased age amount have their income tax withholdings reduced directly from their pension?

Yes. Taxpayers may arrange for a reduction in tax withholdings by filing a revised TD1 form with the payer of the pension. For more information, please consult, Filing Form TD1, Personal Tax Credits Return.
